John Shaw

John William Shaw, 75, of Fairmont and longtime resident of Springfield, Va., passed away Friday (Nov. 16, 2012).

John is survived by his wife, Doris, of 50 years; sons, John (Eric) Shaw and Todd Shaw; daughter-in-law, Teri Shaw; brother, Jerry Shaw, and sister, Margaret Shaw; and six loving grandchildren.

John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, teacher, coach and a friend to all. John loved sports and was a longtime coach for CSLL; through coaching, John mentored and touched the hearts of many children and families in Springfield. John was also a dedicated teacher who took great pride in mentoring his students by instilling his strong moral values and work ethic. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, basketball, camping and spending as much time with friends and family as he could.  

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA 22032. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairfax Memorial.

Memorial donations may be made to Jimmy V. Foundation for cancer research (www.jimmyv.org) or to the MDS Foundation (www.mds-foundation.org) supporting research for John’s specific type of cancer.
