Joyce Schleicher

Our beloved mother made her final journey through heaven’s gate. Joyce Ann Schleicher, 76, passed away peacefully Sunday (Feb. 10, 2013) at the residence of her daughter, Roberta Kozul.

Joyce was born in Fairmont on Nov. 9, 1936, to the late Georgia and William Lipscomb.

Joyce was married to Robert Schleicher in April 1954.

Joyce was a devout Catholic by faith and enjoyed being active in her church, Immaculate Conception. Ms. Schleicher was an employee of Community and Bellview Foodlands, from which she retired in 1993.

Family and friends were Joyce’s passion and joy. She loved to hold family dinners, picnics and gatherings. Joyce loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her free time, Joyce loved tending to her elaborate flower garden, reading, shopping and participating in church-related activities.

Survivors include eight of her 10 children, their spouses and significant others, Roberta “Bobbi” Ann Kozul and her fiancé Bill Phillips, Kathy Newbraugh, Lea Anna Phillips and her fiancé Jayme Jeffries, Mary Swisher, Bill Schleicher and his wife Paula, Patrick Schleicher, Christina Gump and her husband Todd, of Morgantown, and John Schleicher; 10 grandchildren, TJ Nuzum, Michael Nuzum, Geoffrey Phillips and his wife Betty, Amber Rowell and her husband Josh, Robert Kozul, Maresa Kozul and her fiancé Ben Hoffmaster, Ryan Keeney, Kayla Schleicher and her fiancé Greg Price, Evan Gump and Madeline Gump; six great-grandchildren, Tyler, BreAnna and Addison Rowell, Isabella and Allison Phillips, and Marquis Price; her sisters, Cindy Luzadder and her husband Michael of Fairmont, Carol Tremble and her husband Howard of Morgantown, and Sherri Barnes of Clarksburg; her special friend of many years, Nick Alberico; and her springer spaniel, Molly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; and two of her beloved children, infant son, David Schleicher, and Paul “Butch” Schleicher.

Pallbearers will include Robert Kozul, Todd Gump, Bill Phillips, Geoffrey Phillips, Michael Nuzum and Joshua Rowell. Honorary pallbearer will be grandson Evan Alexander Gump.

Friends may call Ford Funeral Home from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. A vigil service will be held in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Church at 10 a.m. Friday with Father Robert Perriello as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in Fairmont.
