Thomas Efaw Jr.

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

— Isaiah 40:31

Thomas Woodrow Efaw Jr. passed from this life Sunday (Feb. 3, 2013).

He was born in Fairmont on Sept. 10, 1948 to the late Thomas Woodrow Efaw Sr. and Ethel Aldene (Thompson) Efaw, who survives.

Tom proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Before becoming disabled due to illness, he was employed by Patriot Coal of Fairview. Prior to employment at Patriot Coal, Tom worked at various jobs including Fairview Bit Co. and Fairview Furnace.

Tom was employed at Chunky Jo’s Bakery, a family business owned by his sister and brother-in-law. He was a quiet man with many interests. He loved carpentry, refinishing furniture, yard work, nature and most of all sitting on his front porch. He was dearly loved by his family.

He is survived by his constant companion and wife of 23 years, Martha “Marti” Efaw; a son, Christopher Efaw and wife Patricia of Little River, S.C.; and two stepchildren, SFC Eric Moyers and his wife Rhonda of Mount Holly, N.J., and Bethany Wycoff and husband Travis of Fairmont.

Also surviving are step-grandchildren, Tristen and Seth Moyers and Culley and Anna Beth Wycoff, whom he loved as his own.

In addition to his mother, Tom is survived by a brother, William and wife Suzanne Efaw of Fairview; and two sisters, Ruthie Angelilli of Fairmont, and Susie Selan and husband Joseph of Grant Town. Tom is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as numerous cousins and family members.

In addition to his father, Tom was preceded in death by a cousin he loved dearly, Kenny Fox, and most recently a favorite aunt, Darlene Price of Weirton.

Being a six-year cancer survivor, Tom was an active participant in several clinical research studies at Hillman Cancer Center in Pittsburgh. His generous and giving nature will hopefully give a longer and more fulfilling life to those who fight this dreaded disease.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, Curry Chapel, Fairview, from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9-11 a.m. Thursday. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Jason Sheffstall officiating. Burial will be at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton with full military honors.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.domicofh.com.

The family requests that memorial donations be made in Tom’s memory to: Hospice Care Corp., P.O. Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520, hospicecarecorp.org; Hillman Cancer Center: Development UPMC Cancer Pavilion, Suite 1B 5150 Center Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15232; or Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675, support.woundedwarriorproject.com.
