Anne Grace Smith, 86, of Bridgeport, passed away on Monday (Jan. 14, 2013) at United Hospital Center.
She was born Sept. 19, 1926, in Queens, N.Y., a daughter of the late Salin Edward Marcone and Regetta Alvino Marcone.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Gilbert Smith, who passed away on Oct. 5, 1998.
She is survived by one son, Edward R. Smith of Malverne, N.Y.; two daughters, Pam A. Paulin and her husband Bill of Morgantown, and Maribeth Beckner and her husband Mike of Bridgeport; brother-in-law, William Smith of Jackson Heights, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren, Doug M. Paulin and Lindsay L. Paulin both of Atlanta, Ga., Raeanne M. Beckner of Bridgeport, Pam Banks, Jennifer Banks, James Banks and John Banks all of Parker, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Gail Banks; her mother-in-law, Anna Smith; and her sister-in-law, Irene Glynn.
Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Malverne High School in Malverne, N.Y., Class of 1944, and also Brown’s Business College in NYC in 1946. She was employed as a switchboard operator for New York Curb Exchange and then as a homemaker.
Later in life she was a childcare assistant teacher at St. Mary’s Preschool in Ronkonkoma, N.Y. She was a member of Sharing and Caring in Fairmont and All Saints Catholic Church in Bridgeport.
Along with her husband, she belonged to the Orchid Society of New York and Connecticut and the Tropical Fish Society of New York and Connecticut. She prided herself on raising her family and enjoying life both on the Whitney Estate in Manhasset, N.Y., and in Westport, Conn.

Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport, on Monday from 2-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with Father Hilarion Cann as Celebrant. Mrs. Smith will be interred next to her husband at the West Virginia National Cemetery, Pruntytown.
