Bernie Shelosky

Bernie Shelosky, 65, of Monongah, passed away at his home Monday (Jan. 14, 2013).

He was born June 8, 1947, the youngest son of Julia (Lazorick) and the late Stanley “Strob” Shelosky.

Bernie was a 1965 graduate of Monongah High School. He was a Vietnam veteran who served with the U.S. Army. He was a retired coal miner who spent more than 30 years underground at Martinka and Federal No. 2 mines.

Bernie was an avid golfer, lifelong member of Green Hills Country Club and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a Catholic by faith and also enjoyed attending the Sunrise Chapel.

He loved trout fishing and going to “camp” in the West Virginia mountains. “Pappy” adored spending time with his grandchildren and attending all their events.

Bernie is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda Mazza Shelosky; daughter, Stephany and husband Mike Blickenstaff of Fairmont; daughter, Andrea Shelosky and husband Tim Matthews of Monongah; and two beloved grandchildren, Victoria and Luke Blickenstaff. Also surviving are a brother, Tom Shelosky and wife Phyllis of Monongah; two sisters, Becky Carvillano of Fairmont, and Barb Shelosky and husband Eric Willis of California; and two brothers-in-law, Larry Mazza of Fairmont and Rick Mazza of North Carolina.

In addition to his father, Bernie was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Jimmy and Jenny Mazza; and one brother-in-law, Anthony Carvillano.

Friends and family may call at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service being held at 7 p.m. today led by Father Steve Joseph. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Monongah with Father Steve Joseph as celebrant. Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton.
