Evelyn Martin

Evelyn Gertrude Martin, 84, of Pleasant Valley, passed away Thursday (Dec. 27, 2012) at Fairmont General Hospital.

She was born in Flemington on July 19, 1928, a daughter of the late William B. Smith and Olga E. Reed Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Eugene “Gene” Martin, in 2003.

Mrs. Martin was the owner of S&M Glass of Fairmont and was a registered dietician. She began her dietician career at North Central Community Action and then at WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital of Morgantown for several years and retired as a dietician from the John Manchin Health Care Center in Fairmont.

She was a member of Valley Chapel United Methodist Church and held membership in the United Methodist Women of the church. She was also a member of the Fairmont Lions Club, A.A.U.W. and the Soroptimist Club. She and her late husband Gene were both very active in the Associated Businesses of East Fairmont.

Survivors include two sons, Bill Martin of Pleasant Valley, and Bob Martin and his wife Stephanie, also of Pleasant Valley. Two grandchildren survive, Ashley and Andrew Martin, both at home. Also surviving are several cousins.

Friends may call at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Andrew Tennant officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery & Mausoleum.
