Rosemary Keener Thompson, 89, of Ices Run, Fairmont, passed away Tuesday (Dec. 25, 2012) peacefully at her home surrounded by loving family.
She was born Oct. 21, 1923 in Unity, Pa., daughter of the late Thomas Herbert and Alma Werner Keener. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Paul Edward Thompson, who died in May 2012.
She graduated in 1942 from Barrackville High School and worked at Westinghouse several years before traveling 10 years with her husband with the U.S. Air Force during World War II. She then came back to Fairmont where she started her family life. Rosemary will be remembered for her loving, caring ways, always willing to help others. She was mom to many children, having cared for more than 20 foster children in her home. She enjoyed camping and spending time with her family. Mrs. Thompson was chosen as the Times West Virginian Mother of the Year in 2007.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Paula and Kevin Kisner and Melanie and Jack Carpenter, all of Fairmont: and a son and his wife, Mark and Tracy Thompson of Clarksburg.
Rosemary is also survived by her loving grandchildren and their spouses, Jonathan and Sara Carpenter, Joshua and Tasha Carpenter, Stephanie and Justin Conrad, Justin Thompson and his companion April Cutlip, Jennifer and Jason Abbott, and Robert J. and Haley Currey; great-grandchildren, Jordon and Tyler Abbott, Aric Dean Thompson, Cowen Paul Carpenter and Landon James Conrad; a sister, Virginia Edwards of Worthington; a brother, Thomas Keener of Yulee, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Dorothy Jackson, Alma Morgan, Cora Tucker and Clara Utt.
Friends may call at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, from 2-8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Friday with the Rev. David Cyphers officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
