Richard Gray Lockwood, 87, of Pleasant Valley, passed away on Friday (March 15, 2013) at his residence.
He was born Oct. 26, 1925, in Fairmont, the son of the late Carl Lockwood and the late Dorothy Louden Lockwood Nutter.
He is survived by his wife, of 64 years, Helen B. Besedich Lockwood.
Mr. Lockwood was a member of the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church in Pleasant Valley. He was a graduate of East Fairmont High School.
Following his education, he served with the United States Marine Corps, where he served in the American Theatre during World War II as a corporal. Dick then worked with the Matheson Chemical Plant in Morgantown and later with the United States Post Office. He retired in 1984 with more than 27 years of service as a postal carrier and later worked in the Truck Maintenance Department.
Dick also played with the Jimmy Morgan Orchestra for more than 44 years as their drummer. He was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Helen B. Besedich Lockwood; sons, Gary and his wife Linda Lockwood of Denver, Colo., Alan and his wife Sue Lockwood of Fairmont, and Mark and his wife Sandi Lockwood of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Ryan Lockwood, Audra and her husband Evan Malone, Lysa Lockwood, Rayan Matthews, Tyler Lockwood and Drew Lockwood; and great-grandchildren, Alyssa Lockwood and Gage Matthews.
He is also survived by his close cousins, Tom Louden of Virginia and Sandra Houston of Baltimore, Md.
He was preceded in death by his parents; as well as his step-father, Tom Nutter; and his maternal grandparents who raised him, Mr. and Mrs. E.R. Louden.

Friends and family may call the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. as well as on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Andrew Tennant officiating. Interment will follow at the Grandview Memorial Gardens, Fairmont. Military services will be held graveside.
