Josephine Gladys Hinkle, 78, of the Rock Lake Community, Fairmont, passed away peacefully Friday (Oct. 26, 2012) at Fairmont General Hospital.
She was born in Colfax on Feb. 23, 1934, a daughter of the late Orval L. and Hazel D. (Longfellow) Mowrey.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 37 years, James A. Hinkle, in July 1987.
Josephine was a loving homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Colfax United Methodist Church, Rock Lake Club and the Rock Lake Garden Club. She and her husband, along with her son Ron, started a family business, J & R Electronics, where she was the bookkeeper and secretary for many years before retiring in December 2004.
She enjoyed going to church, was an avid reader and loved taking care of her many flowers. A joy in her life was her many travels, including a wonderful cruise to Alaska with her aunt Ollie Currence and cousin Becky Martin.
She is survived by three sons, Ronald K. “Ron” Hinkle and his wife Brenda of Fairmont, Edward A. “Ed” Hinkle and his wife Cheryl of Fairmont, and Lawrence A. “Larry” Hinkle and his wife Goldie of Fairmont; one daughter, Deborah J. “Debbie” Rogers and her husband Virgil L. Rogers III of Fairmont; 10 grandchildren, Jackie Fleming and her husband Bryan, Virgil Rogers IV, James Rogers and his wife Mary, Ryan Hinkle and his wife Chrystal, Mathew Hinkle, Lindsey Hinkle and her fiance Kyle Clarke, Jason Hinkle, Jared Hinkle, William Hinkle and Sabrina Turcotte and her husband Michael; 11 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Brianna, Caleb, Talon, Haley, Myles, Layla, Isabella, Chase, Katie and Faith; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister in infancy, Edith Mae; three brothers and their spouses, Herman E. Mowrey and his wife Doris, Theodore L. Mowrey and his wife Catherine, and Denzil E. Mowrey; and a great-grandson in infancy.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 2-9 p.m. today and from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Interment will follow at Woodsdale Memorial Park in Grafton.
