Grace Pauline (Biddle) Vandergrift, 97, of Route 3, Bridgeport, Meadland Community, departed from this life Monday (July 9, 2012) at her residence.
She was born in Hammond on March 18, 1915, a daughter of the late Engle and Sarah Ann (Lawler) Biddle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Vandergrift, in 1955.
Grace was a loving homemaker and mother. She loved spending time with her family and friends and was always there to provide a helping hand to anyone in need.
She is survived by five children, Clarence “Ike” Vandergrift of Meadland Community, Tommy Vandergrift of Meadland Community, Avery Vandergrift and his wife Charlotte of Pruntytown, Helen Little and her husband Gary of Meadland Community, and Leonard “Darrell” Vandergrift and his wife Pam of Valley Falls; four grandchildren, Rhonda Moran and her husband Jeff of Meadland, Jason Vandergrift and his wife Angie of Horner’s Run, Sandra Cunningham and her husband Tony of Meadland, and Brian Vandergrift and his companion Melissa of Valley Falls; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Also surviving is one sister-in-law, Virginia Biddle of Levels Community; a special nephew, James Biddle and his wife Janet of Florida; as well as several other loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her longtime companion, Clyde “Perk” Perkins in 1983; one daughter in infancy, Edna May Vandergrift; six brothers, Charles, Claude, Howard, Clyde, Lee and Junior Biddle; and two sisters, Ruth Brown and Mable Vandergrift.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 4 to 8 p.m. today and Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Janes Memorial Cemetery.
