Daniel P. “Danny” Sehewchuk, 67, of Fairmont, passed away Monday (Nov. 12, 2012) at Pierpont Center in Fairmont surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Morgantown on Dec. 27, 1944, a son of Pete Sehewchuk of Fairmont and the late Bonnie Pearl Sehewchuk.
Danny proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, serving as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division for three years. He worked for General Motors in Ohio for several years. He was a black belt in karate and took pride in the fact that he sparred with Chuck Norris. He enjoyed spending his time in the woods of West Virginia being among our state’s plants and animals.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his aunts, Margaret Shevchuck of Fairmont, Mary Martin of Wilmington, Del., Olga S. Ulrich of Wilmington, Del., Judy E. Carter of Fairmont, Joyce A. Carter of Fairmont, Lucille Powell of Fairmont and Virginia Wilson of Fairmont; one uncle, Harry Shevchuck and his wife Joyce of Wilmington, Del.; cousins, Nick Shevchuck III and his wife Barbara of Fairmont, Bobby Shevchuck of Baltimore, Gregory Shevchuck and his wife Rosemary of Pennsylvania, Susan Agner of Wilmington, Del., Lisa Marta of Florida, Ivan Shevchuck of Rehobeth Beach, Del., and Stephen Shevchuck of Fairmont; and several other cousins in the Delaware area.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William A. and Ora Ellen Carter; his paternal grandparents, Nickolia and Anastassa Shevchuck; an aunt, Monnie Satterfield; uncles, Carl Carter, Nick Shevchuck Jr., Buster Martin, Jim Ulrich, Gary Carter and Victor Carter; and a cousin, Cathy Shevchuck.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 1-8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Thursday with Pastor Tom Shepherd officiating. Interment will follow at Pisgah Cemetery in Monongalia County where full military honors will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Ruby Memorial Hospital and Pierpont Center for the care and compassion they gave Daniel during his short illness.
