FAIRMONT — A few months ago, West Fairmont’s girls’ lacrosse team won the first-ever state title game.
So it’s only natural that the Polar Bears were well-represented on the 2008 WVSLA girls all-state lacrosse team.
Of the 23 first-teamers, five are Bears.
Hannah Nagowski and Michelle Wilson were both first-team attackers.
Nagowski finished the season No. 6 in the state with 20 goals. She also had 11 assists. Wilson was the third leading scorer with 40 goals.
West’s Morgan Cain was named to the mid-field and led the state with 90 goals last season. She averaged five goals per game.
Fiona Perotti and Alex Mascaro were defensive honorees. Perotti was the Polar Bears’ defensive captain, and Mascaro, a sophomore, scored seven goals from her defensive position.
University’s Kristin Cole and Dane Grandon, Morgantown’s Hannah Snively and Buckhannon’s Laura Mason rounded out the all-state attackers.
Morgantown’s Christina Cira, Kristen Summers and Rachel Nieman, Buckhannon’s Jessica Hardman and Alexis Sabo, Wheeling Park’s Deryn Martin and University’s Jenna Hughes join Cain on the midfield team.
University’s Heather Burns, Kelse Clymer, Buckhannon’s Emily Brumley and Maggie Rhodes, Wheeling Park’s Brittney Ellis and Breanna Lemasters, and Morgantown’s Stevie Burtner were the other defensive honorees.
Morgantown’s Brynne Morehead was picked as all-state in goal.
