Conference’s best

16 county players, 8 Polar Bears make NCAC first team

FAIRMONT — Fairmont Senior ruled the North Central Athletic Conference in 2009, going through its league schedule unbeaten en route to a 9-1 regular season. It’s only fitting that the squad displayed the same kind of dominance when the NCAC released its all-conference football teams Saturday.

The Polar Bears had a league-best eight players make first team, including quarterback Logan Moore, who was named Player of the Year. In addition, J.L. Abbott was selected as Coach of the Year while linebacker Remington Skarzinski shared defensive co-captain honors with University’s Steven Bohon.

As a senior this past season, Moore completed 162 of 291 passes for 2,568 yards, 31 touchdowns and just eight interceptions. The Kennedy Award candidate added 576 rushing yards and 11 scores on 107 attempts.
