The Lady Falcons are coming off a devastating loss against West Virginia State on Saturday, 72-62.
Coach Steve McDonald is hoping the Falcons can pack a punch during this week’s slew of games.
“Coaches tell you that we take games one at a time because you’ll lose them one at a time if you don’t,” McDonald said. “We do have four of our next five games at home, and this is an opportunity for us to get back on the winning track.”
During the loss against the Yellow Jackets, FSU received production from its two stars in Kaitlin Snyder and Hailey Garrett.
Snyder tallied 29 points, while Garrett scored 15.
“Every basketball team has players that end up scoring and other players that end up rebounding and other players that do the intangibles,” McDonald said. “We’re no different. Hailey and Kaitlin shoulder most of the scoring, but we’ve had as many as four or five other players that have gotten us double figures from time to time, too. At this time of the year, we need everybody scoring at a level that allows
us not to be a one-dimensional or two-dimensional team.”
Of course, Snyder, the WVIAC Player of the Year just one season ago, is leading the team in scoring with 17 points per game; Garrett is close behind at 13.5 points per game and nine boards per game.
FSU’s other threats are Tiffany Nicholson and Briana Welch, who add nine points a game on the offensive side of the ball.
If the team can pair up and execute on both sides of the ball, they will have an opportunity of getting back on track.
“This is an opportunity for us to get on a roll while heading into the conference championship,” McDonald said. “This is an absolutely huge game for us (against Pitt-Johnstown).”
