Huskies plow past Bucs

FAIRMONT — North Marion girls’ basketball rolled past Buckhannon-Upshur on Monday evening, 58-41.

“It felt good to get a win on the road,” North Marion head coach Mike Parrish said. “We didn’t play well and usually Monday practices aren’t that good, so playing on Monday isn’t a good day for us to play.”

Even though the Huskies didn’t play up to par for Parrish’s standards, North has been able to win its fourth straight game.

Before the four-game winning streak, the Huskies were flirting with a .500 record at 5-4, but managed to run past Liberty, Grafton, Elkins and now Buckhannon.

Helping pace the Huskies in the first quarter was Ms. Three Pointer herself, Audia Bartlett.

Opening the game, Bartlett drilled two threes in the first quarter and tallied a combined 10 points in the first.

“Bartlett had a good first quarter — 10 of her 13 points were from the first quarter. She got us going early,” Parrish said.

From there, the Huskies were on a roll. Following a three from Megan Haller and a basket from Anna Marie Moscufo, NMHS was in the driver’s seat heading into halftime, 34-20.

But in the third, the Huskies let the Bucs back in the game.

Buckhannon’s Kelsey Hinzman started lighting it up. She ended the quarter with quick, back-to-back three pointers, narrowing the lead to 48-33.

“(Hinzman) is the one shooter that we knew we had to guard, and we didn’t do a real good job on her,” Parrish said. “A couple of times we got lost in the zone. People weren’t moving where they were supposed to. They weren’t getting out on the wing or on top ... leave them open and then they make shots.”
