FAIRMONT —
Gary Sturgeon, a registered sex offender and accused arsonist, is in jail awaiting indictment on sexual assault and abuse charges following a trip to Marion County Magistrate Court Wednesday.
Sturgeon, a 54-year-old Metz resident, was arrested last week on three counts of first-degree sexual assault and one count of sexual abuse by a custodian after allegedly forcing himself on a young boy on three occasions between January 2006 and September 2009.
He waived a preliminary hearing on these charges in magistrate court Wednesday afternoon, at which Magistrate Cathy Reed-Vanatta also denied a request to reduce his $80,000 cash-only bond. He remains in North Central Regional Jail in Doddridge County, and his case will be bound over to circuit court.
