Kinder-garten registration for the fall of 2013 begins Tuesday, April 30.
Charlie Pitrolo, kindergarten liaison, said registration on April 30 will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Children who reach the age of 5 prior to Sept. 1 are eligible for enrollment.
According to Pitrolo, there are several documents and pieces of information that parents or guardians must bring in order to complete registration, including: the child’s Social Security number, a utility bill indicating place of residence, immunization records, certificate of live birth, a current health check form/preventative health screening that is dated after Oct. 1, 2011 (available from the child’s pediatrician) and a Medicaid or Medicare card if applicable.
Pitrolo said a copy of a birth certificate will not suffice — it must be issued from the West Virginia Department of Vital Statistics. It is possible to enroll your child without a valid birth certificate, but one must be presented within five days from the first day of school to avoid being penalized.
Pitrolo said that if someone needs to obtain a valid birth certificate, the quickest way to do so is to call the department of statistics and pay with a credit card.
In addition, Pitrolo said that if a child’s shots are not up to date, it will prevent the child from attending school. He recommended visiting the health department, a clinic or the child’s pediatrician to retrieve a written record of this information.
