Pierpont Community & Technical College is aiming to personify the school spirit exhibited by its students and faculty by naming an official mascot for the institution.
“We have never had a mascot before,” Rod Mayhew, director of marketing at Pierpont, said. “It’s pretty exciting. We have a lot of school spirit here, and the idea behind the mascot is to continue that spirit.”
Mayhew said that members of Pierpont’s Student Government compiled a long list of possible mascots that was then narrowed down to the best five or six ideas. Input was then sought from the early childhood center on campus where children were asked to choose their favorites.
The Pierpont’s President’s Council voted to narrow the ideas down to three, and, according to Mayhew, there was little discrepancy between the picks of the council and the children.
