MCPARC program puts Christmas trees in homes, then parks

FAIRMONT — It’s becoming a Christmas tradition for the Arcure family.

Each year, they pick out a tree through the Marion County Parks and Recreation Commission’s Christmas Tree Program.

The program allows people to purchase a balled and burlapped tree at Mount Zion Nursery. Once the tree is purchased, MCPARC delivers the tree to the family’s house free of charge and picks it up after the holidays. MCPARC then replants the tree in one of the agency’s parks around the county.

This is the second year Ali Arcure and her family have gotten their Christmas tree through the program, and they plan on making it a tradition.

“I love the idea that we didn’t kill a tree in order to have a Christmas tradition,” she said. “It has become our thing — we decide as a family what tree is perfect for us, then I take a picture of the family by the tree.”
