Two Marion County towns have protested Monongah’s water rate increase.
When Monongah passed an ordinance Dec. 10, 2012 for a water rate increase, Farmington and Worthington filed letters of protest against the increase. The two towns are resale customers of Monongah, and the ordinance calls for a 44 percent rate increase over three years. The increase not only affects the residents of Monongah, but its resale customers as well.
Don Harris, mayor of Monongah, said the increase will happen in three phases. The first year will be a 25 percent increase, 10 percent the next year and 5 percent the year after that.
“The next year, if we see the need for the increase, then we’ll put 10 percent on it,” Harris said.
