SHINNSTON —
The City of Shinnston relieved Michael Secreto as chief of police of the Shinnston Police Department on Wednesday.
Secreto was placed on suspension Thursday, Jan. 17, after information was received, and city council was informed of the situation in an emergency council meeting Tuesday afternoon.
No further comment can be made regarding the nature of the information received as disclosure could jeopardize an ongoing investigation, according to a press release from the City of Shinnston.
Secreto had been an officer with the department since 1993 and chief since 2001. His termination from the City of Shinnston is effective immediately.
Lt. Jason Carlson has been named acting chief of police for an undetermined period.
