FAIRMONT —
On the coldest day of the year so far, the United Way of Marion County hosted its annual meeting to announce that the “Warm Up Marion County” fundraising campaign is very close to meeting its goal.
According to executive director Tiffany Samuels, the 2012-13 United Way campaign is sitting at roughly 92 percent of its $455,000 goal.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the campaign had raised $419,600, and campaign co-chairwoman Dr. Doreen Larson of Pierpont Community & Technical College said additional donations are already coming in.
“We’re feeling grateful,” Larson said.
Her husband and co-chairman Len Larson added, “We’re very pleased with the community.
“They’re doing everything they can to make us successful.”
