FAIRMONT —
Renovations began on Highland Hospital’s new Clarksburg location last week after financing was secured.
A ceremony was held Tuesday to kick off the yearlong process until the 150-bed psychiatric facility opens at the old United Hospital Center nearly four years after the project was announced.
“It’s exciting,” said spokesman Jim Strawn of the facility, which officially will be Highland-Clarksburg Hospital Inc., or HCHI. “Everybody was uplifted today. Spirits were soaring. Everyone was smiling and so congratulatory. Some of the lines I heard were, ‘It’s finally here.’”
On Jan. 14, officials of the Charleston-based Highland signed the bottom line on a $34.8 million construction loan syndicated through Huntington National Bank.
