MANNINGTON —
In 1957, after more than 100 years in service, the Mannington Train Depot was no longer in service.
Now, more than 50 years later, the depot is in the process of being restored.
Rana Taylor, program manager for Mannington Main Street, said the goal is to restore the building and have three businesses occupy it. Main Street purchased the train depot in December 2011.
“We want to put start-up businesses in here,” she said. “But keep it low income so they can stay on their feet and get the tools they need.”
The depot is only one of a few left in West Virginia. It was completely built in 1852 and during the Civil War, the depot was used to ship troops by railroad.
