FAIRMONT —
In 1997, Marion County started the process of converting addresses from rural routes to street addresses.
This year, they’ll officially finish.
Chris McIntire, head of the Office of Emergency Services in Marion County, said that he expects that the Farmington and Rivesville zip codes will have their new addresses made official within the next month or so, and residents of the Fairmont zip code will be able to use their street addresses by mid-2013.
Marion County Commissioner Butch Tennant said that this project started as a statewide initiative.
“It was a requirement, and then the state got behind,” he said.
