Turning 12 may be just another birthday for some people, but for Brooke Krcek, turning 12 will be a day she’ll always remember.
Krcek turns 12 today, Dec. 12 (12/12/12), the last repetitive date until Jan. 1, 2101 (01/01/01).
“I think it’s cool because it’s the last repetitive day for almost 100 years,” she said.
With it being a special birthday, Krcek’s father told her she could pick anywhere she wanted to go, so she picked the southern Caribbean. She said she’s excited about the trip in the spring, but nervous at the same time.
“I’m scared of sharks,” she said.
Krcek wants to remember this birthday by having fun on her vacation cruise and enjoying it with her family.
Because her birthday falls on a school night, Krcek will celebrate with her friends Saturday. She’s a sixth-grader at West Fairmont Middle School and said the school recognizes students’ birthdays.
“Usually they give you a certificate that says ‘Happy Birthday’ and a pencil,” she said.
Her mother Tania said Brooke was supposed to be born on Dec. 16 but she was delivered a few days early.
“She was upside down so they had to schedule a C-section,” Tania Krcek said.
She said she thought having her newborn
on Dec. 12, 2000 was special and didn’t realize at the time that her daughter’s 12th birthday would be even more special.
“When they scheduled (the C-section) for Dec. 12, I thought, ‘That’s neat,’” she said. “I didn’t even think about the future.”
