FAIRMONT —
It takes some time to get into the swing of a new project.
As they enter their fourth year of putting on the Celebration of Lights on behalf of the United Way of Marion County, the Rotary Club of South Fairmont has added even more displays and elements to what was already a great event.
Taking over the project “was a vast and major undertaking,” said Butch Phillips, president of the Rotary club. The event, created by the United Way, started about six years ago, he said.
“They were in a situation where they had to rent the displays, and it became very labor intensive and expensive for them,” he said.
The Rotary Club stepped in and organized it with permanent displays, which has made a big difference.
“Through the gracious donations and support of a whole bunch of folks ... we have over 100 displays,” Phillips said.
