FAIRMONT — The “Snowmageddon” that reached North Central West Virginia Friday night and into Saturday might not have packed the same punch as in the nation’s Capital, but it still promised to leave snowfall totals of up to 16 inches and more, and it caused several power outages and closed Interstate 79 from Marion County to the Pennsylvania state line for a period Saturday morning.
Emergency services personnel were working to set up shelters to take in those without power and planned to meet with the National Guard on Saturday evening in order to bring in heavy equipment to clear trees and snow off roads.
More than a quarter — 7,900 — of Marion County’s 29,500 Allegheny Power customers were experiencing outages as of Saturday afternoon.
