FAIRMONT — Across the entire State of West Virginia, there are only four State Trooper detachments that have solid 24-hour law enforcement coverage.
And of the total 60 detachments covering the state’s 55 counties, there are 33 that have less than five officers.
For these very reasons, the West Virginia Troopers Association (WVTA) advocated Senate Bill 386 for the 2010 regular Legislative session.
According to the bill’s language, SB 386 would implement programs and resources to bump up the State Trooper numbers to a minimum of 800 by July 1, 2014.
