Mike Oliverio is ready to take another shot at running for Congress.
“We want to bring common sense and real West Virginia values to Washington. We think that is what is missing today,” Oliverio told the Times West Virginian Monday.
In 2010, Oliverio defeated longtime incumbent Alan Mollohan in a tough battle in the Democratic primary for the 1st Congressional District. Oliverio then waged a rough-and-tumble campaign against Republican David McKinley. When the votes were tabulated late that November night, McKinley was swept into office by a tea party tsunami that gave Republicans control of the House. McKinley won with less than a 1-percent margin, or about 1,400 votes out of 179,880 ballots cast.
Oliverio said he will make his official announcement today about his plan to run in the Democratic primary.
“I am passionate in my desire to serve,” he said. “Everyone is asking if I want to run. My answer is that I want to serve. That’s what I want to do.”
