FAIRMONT — At today’s commission meeting, public opinions on a proposed countywide noise and nuisance ordinance are set to be heard before officials take a final reading and vote.

A modified version of a historically ineffective law that expired several years ago under a sunset clause, this ordinance aims to allow law enforcement officials to invoke a penalty on anyone who creates “unreasonably loud, disturbing noises declared a nuisance” within county limits. And if no one significantly objects to its contents, officials expect that the new law will be placed on the books following today’s public hearing and second reading.

The proposal was introduced by commissioners two weeks ago with a first reading, followed by the running of a legal advertisement asking the public for written questions or comments concerning its contents. County administrator Kris Cinalli said Tuesday that little to no correspondence has been received, thus giving the impression that the hearing will not be laced with a lot of objections.
