FAIRMONT —
Longtime farmers Fred and Patty White stay plenty busy, but they love what they do.
The Whites have a 130-acre farm in Taylor County that they operate as White’s Produce. Not only do they work 16 hours a day and sell products at their farm seven days a week, but they also serve as vendors at the Fairmont Farmers Market twice a week. The couple has been selling their home-grown foods at the market for about 32 years, and have seen the market change locations several times.
On Tuesday, Fred and Patty were selling red and white potatoes, green beans, hot and sweet peppers, and red and green tomatoes during the Fairmont Farmers Market, held in the post office parking lot on the corner of Adams and Madison streets.
Patty said they take pride in the fact that their produce is picked daily and very little pesticides are used. They enjoy meeting people and making great friends through their farm.

More streets to be paved this week
Even more city streets will be paved this week than expected.
City Manager Jay Rogers said the spring paving required fewer tons of asphalt to cover the distance than originally estimated. That means there’s asphalt to spare and more streets are getting paved this spring. -

Former WVU coach takes final journey home
Bill Stewart has made his way back home.
