Fairmont City Council ballot set

Only two of four races are contested

FAIRMONT — Fairmont’s city council election is one step closer.

City residents had until late Wednesday to sign up to run for one of four seats available in the city council election.

Seven people have filed to run for the four available council seats, and only two of those are contested races.

Mayor Bill Burdick and Deputy Mayor Rob Garcia are the only candidates facing opponents.

Burdick, who represents the city’s 4th District, will face Anthony Tyrone Horton.

Garcia, who represents the 7th District, is being challenged by Suzy Henderson Smith and Don Chapman.

Incumbent Councilman Dan Weber is the only individual filed to run for his 6th District seat.
