FAIRMONT —
At Tuesday’s city council meeting, City Manager Jay Rogers provided a total summary of the paving that has been done throughout the City of Fairmont since the street maintenance program was put into place.
To date, $1,662,517.30 has been spent and 116 roads (equivalent to 15.7 miles) throughout Fairmont have been paved. In the fall of 2012 alone, 54 streets (7.4 miles) were paved at a cost of $797,897.56. Rogers said the paving was able to be done at an average cost of $82 per ton of asphalt, a price that is considerably less than similar projects that he has seen.
“Working through the state contract has really been to our advantage,” Rogers said.
