Stimulus funding coming to schools

Plans for more than $3.6 million awaiting approval

FAIRMONT — Marion County Schools — and county teachers — will soon be receiving some stimulus money.

The money comes from the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and it’s not just free money. Superintendent of Schools Tom Deadrick said the money must be used in specific ways. Right now, Deadrick’s plans for the money are in Charleston, awaiting approval by the appropriate agencies.

Following approval in Charleston, the plans must also be approved by the county board of education, he said.

“All ideas have to be approved by the respective departments in Charleston,” Deadrick said. “We should know sometime next week whether our projects have been approved. Then we’ll be able to present to the board (of education) and move forward.”
