FAIRMONT — Marion County Commissioners hope that all non civil service county employees will soon operate under a uniform vacation and sick leave policy.
This week, the commission adopted revisions to the county’s current policy, which human resources director Rick Humphreys said was revised in January for the first time in nearly 20 years.
“The policy they passed in January hadn’t been revised by them since 1988,” Humphreys explained. “Over the course of the first six months of that policy being in use, (the commissioners) identified a few areas that they wanted to change to make it a little more employee-friendly and receptive to officials.”
The most recent changes to the policy include removing restrictions for employees’ accruement of sick leave and changing the current calendar year tracking method for accrued vacation to instead go by an employee’s hire date.
