Fairmont man loses life in work-related accident

PLEASANT VALLEY — A Fairmont man was killed Tuesday morning in a work-related accident at United Rentals.

Detective Sgt. Chip Phillips of the Marion County Sheriff’s Department said George Green, 48, was standing on the aerial lift’s platform as he was backing it out of the United Rentals garage at about 8:30 a.m. He said Green backed into a crane and was pinned between the platform of the aerial boom lift he was driving and the parked crane.

Phillips said Green died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.

United Rentals would not comment on the incident.

Marion County EMS, the sheriff’s department and the Pleasant Valley Fire Department responded to the accident.

No further information was available as of press time.

Founded in 1997, United Rentals Inc. is the largest equipment rental company in the world, with nearly 615 rental locations throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. The company rents a broad range of aerial work platforms and other equipment for commercial and industrial construction, renovation and maintenance, including forklifts and scaffolding.

    James Edward Carpenter, 34, of 100 Parkview Drive, Apt. 101, Mannington, is charged with four counts of first-degree sexual abuse and 10 counts of sexual abuse by parent, guardian or custodian.
