WVU program partners with SustainU
Shirts provided are made from recycled products
MORGANTOWN — Been there. Done that. Got the T-shirt.
West Virginia University’s Adventure West Virginia program has given new meaning to that familiar slogan, thanks to a partnership with SustainU.
SustainU is a clothing company with a conscience. It was co-founded by West Virginia native Chris Yura as a company that’s focused on social, economic and environmental sustainability.
SustainU clothing is made entirely from post-consumer plastic bottles and post-industrial textile waste. Yes, that means it’s all recycled products.
They’re also produced right here in the USA in the same geographical region, which cuts down on the emissions from transporting the products from place to place.
Yura said the company decided to set up shop in North Carolina, which had once been a hotbed of textile manufacturing until companies began moving their operations overseas.

‘Plea dates’ coming to magistrate court
For “the sake of judicial economy,” a procedural change is coming to Marion County’s magistrate court system.
Beginning Tuesday, the county will be implementing “plea dates” for all new misdemeanor cases, an initiative that officials expect will organize the busy magistrate system and possibly even save taxpayers money. -
Pleasant Valley Disc Golf Classic set Sept. 11
There’s still plenty of time to sign up for the sixth annual Pleasant Valley Disc Golf Classic.
The annual event will take place Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Seth Burton Memorial Disc Golf Course at Morris Park.
The event is sanctioned by the Professional Disc Golf Association as a tournament and is a qualifying tournament for the U.S. Disc Golf Association championship. -

HPV vaccine approved for boys
Vaccines that inoculate girls against human papillomavirus (HPV) have been around for nearly four years, and now the same shot has been approved for boys.
