County’s three public facilities prepared for good crowds

FAIRMONT — For as long as Mannington Park Board President Katy Stafford can remember, the city’s community pool has not been as ready for its grand opening as it was this year.

“We have never been at this point this close to the grand opening,” Stafford said earlier last week. “We are not usually in as good a shape as we are this year.”

Saturday, the Mannington Pool as well as East Marion Park’s Wave Pool and the 12th Street Pool held their official grand openings.

The opening date was actually pushed back a week for 12th Street and the Wave Pool because workers had to take more time to patch the pools after the strong storms that blew through the region at the beginning of the month, Marion County Parks and Recreation Commission (MCPARC) assistant director Tony Michalski said this week.

    A Fairmont man charged with forgery, uttering and other crimes is one of 23 people named in indictments handed down by the Marion County Grand Jury in its second day of deliberations Tuesday.
    Jeremy Nathan Ferraro, 31, Fairmont, was indicted on forgery; uttering; obtaining money, property or services by false pretenses; and domestic battery, third offense.

  • Former halfway house director sentenced to five months in prison

    The former director of a local federally contracted halfway house will serve time in prison for an inappropriate relationship with an inmate.
    Carrie L. Cockrell, 36, of Clarksburg, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Clarksburg by Judge Irene M. Keeley to five months’ imprisonment followed by five years of supervised release.
