FAIRMONT — The Woman’s Club of Fairmont is hosting its first Mad Hatters Tea next Sunday.
And those sponsoring the event are excited about the possibilities.
It will be held between the hours of 2 and 4 p.m. at the clubhouse located at 300 First St.
“We just decided we wanted to have a fun event that we could have children attend,” said Mary Jo Thomas, who is helping to plan the event. “We’ve done the high tea in the past, but we thought we would do the Alice in Wonderland story because it’s such a good one. We thought this would be something so we could bring families into the clubhouse. It’s not just for women.
“And we wanted to showcase the historic home,” she said.
The Woman’s Club of Fairmont is on the National Register of Historic Places and has been since August of 1979. This marks the 30th anniversary of that happening.
“This will be the first thing we’ve had like this,” Thomas said. “My college sorority used to have Alice in Wonderland parties, so we’re going to try it.”
Special Mad Hatter’s Tea refreshments will be served. This fun-filled tea is for “children” of all ages with tickets available for adults at $10, children 2 to 12 at $5 and those under 2 admitted free.
In addition to try-on opportunities, there will be several other activities to enjoy as well as delicious refreshments. One of those activities is an Alice in Wonderland video and books to view courtesy of the Marion County Public Library.
“Fancy hats, funny hats, plain hats or no hats are all OK as hats are optional,” Thomas said. “Those attending are encouraged to bring cameras as there will be lots of photo opportunities at the Mad Hatter’s Tea.”
Tickets or additional information are available from Mary Jo Thomas at 304-366-2912 or Nancy Bickerstaff at 304-366-3231.
