Contract error costs W.Va. DOH $170,000
CHARLESTON — A $170,000 error in a state paving contract likely will affect other road projects.
A West Virginia Division of Highways official says human error is the likely cause of the mistake, which added about $170,000 to the cost of a repaving project in Charleston.
Darrell Allen, the DOH’s director of contract administration, says the contract contained incorrect specifications for the size of aggregate stone for the asphalt.
The error was discovered by contractors with West Virginia Paving after the first night of paving. The affected section of road was repaved.
Allen says the DOH will have to adjust other projects in District 1 because of the cost overrun.
