UPDATE — Capitol Beverage contract approved, strike averted

CHARLESTON — A strike by 38 employees of beer distributor Capitol Beverage Co. has been averted.

After being without a contract since May 1, members of Teamsters Local 175 in South Charleston overwhelmingly approved a three-year agreement Sunday afternoon.

If the contract hadn’t been approved, workers were set to strike at midnight.

The agreement includes wage increases and reductions in health insurance deductibles.

As part of the agreement, the union agreed to withdraw unfair labor practice charges it had filed with the National Labor Relations Board

Capitol Beverage distributes Miller, Coors, Old Milwaukee and several imports from Beckley to Parkersburg and from Lewisburg to New Martinsville.
