Members of Pierpont Community & Technical College’s Board of Governors are exceeding standards and expectations set by the Community and Technical College System of West Virginia (WVCTCS).
Members of all boards of governors across the state are required to participate in and complete continuing education and training hours to remain on their respective boards. The WVCTCS tracks those training and development hours.
New board members are required to complete three hours of training within the first six months of their term, while other members must complete six hours within every two years of service.
Cyndee Sensibaugh, Pierpont’s executive assistant to the president, said that the members of the board are already ahead of the curve as each has already met the required training hours.
“They are more than exceeding the required six hours of training,” Sensibaugh said. “It just shows how involved our board really is.”
Sensibaugh said that Pierpont received the tracking report in January which includes documented training hours as of June 30, 2012. According to the report, several of the board members have achieved upwards of 20 hours, with Jim Griffin setting the bar at 51.5 hours.
Sensibaugh said that the training and development hours can be completed through a variety of events and activities that are related to the state’s goals, objectives and priorities for higher education.
“The training can come from anything related to their duties, powers and ethics,” Sensibaugh said. “Anything to help them do their job better.”
