FAIRMONT —
Tuesday marks the beginning of Fairmont State University’s and Pierpont Community & Technical College’s two-week long homecoming festivities.
The kick-off event, which signals the beginning of pre-homecoming activities, is the introduction of the Homecoming King and Queen candidates to students at FSU and Pierpont. The theme for the 2012 homecoming event is “Apocalypse Later, Celebrate Now.”
“It’s coinciding with the 2012 Mayan calendar theory,” Laurie Johnston, director of student activities at FSU, said. “The events are planned to sort of showcase various end-of-the-world theories.”
Johnston said that the Mayan theme is used throughout homecoming week in terms of decorations and activities. Once pre-homecoming activities end and official homecoming activities begin on Monday, Oct. 15., things will be in full swing.
