FAIRMONT —
Marion County saw a small outbreak of armed robberies this week, and police agencies are actively investigating these incidents.
Late Thursday evening, the Marion County Sheriff’s Department was called out to a robbery at a convenience store in Boothsville.
According to 911 dispatch logs, the crime was reported around 8:45 p.m. on Thursday. Detective Kevin Alkire said the sheriff’s department doesn’t have a lot of information at this time.
“The clerk seemed to think (the suspect) was a black male,” Alkire said. No further description was available at the time.
“He produced a handgun, and she gave him money out of the register,” he said.
Alkire said the department is working to acquire video footage from the store that may help in the investigation. If anyone has any information or tips regarding the crime, they are encouraged to call 304-367-5300 and ask for the detective division of the sheriff’s department.
Early Friday morning, the Fairmont Police Department responded to a series of robberies committed in the city, starting at around 12:45 a.m. at an apartment complex off Locust Avenue and Westwood Court.
A second robbery is believed to have taken place around 1:45 a.m. on Field Street. Neither incident was immediately reported to the police, said Lt. Steve Shine.
