FAIRVIEW —
A miner died following an incident at the Loveridge mine Thursday.
Jessie Adkins, 39, of Belington, was taken to Fairmont General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to a written statement from Consol Energy.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa, and two teenage children.
The accident occurred shortly after noon Thursday.
According to the statement, Adkins had seven years experience and had worked at Loveridge for three of those years. He was working as a bolter when coal and other materials from a section of the mine entry or tunnel, called a mine rib, collapsed and pinned him against a nearby continuous mining machine.
Continuous mining machines are used to drive tunnels, or entries, into the mine for ventilation, movement of miners, equipment and supplies, for transportation of mined coal or for development of longwall sections, the company said.
