FAIRMONT —
When it comes to hot dogs, there’s only one way to top them, as far as Deb Miller is concerned.
Sauce, onions and mustard. She’s a purist in a way.
“No ketchup,” she says with a laugh. Russell Yann would be so proud.
And for her culinary efforts, Miller is the $100 blue ribbon winner in the Times West Virginian’s My Favorite Recipe Contest for Deb’s Hot Dog Sauce.
Of course, it isn’t entirely her recipe, as her sister reminds her. Miller’s older sister, Mary Kincell Parker, was the one who made the sauce for all of the family get-togethers. But when work took her sister to Alabama and then to Mississippi, providing the Kincell family with hot dog sauce fell to Miller.
So she tweaked it a bit to suit her tastes. She added garlic, took away sugar and gave it a beefy flavor with bouillon cubes. And yes, there is spice. Spicier than the original recipe.
