FAIRMONT — The Marion County Commission awarded a bid to demolish a dilapidated property at its regular meeting Wednesday.
Commission President Randy Elliott said there have been complaints about the property on Helen’s Run for about three years. In the past year, the commission began action to have the property demolished.
That’s an unusual action for the commission, Elliott said, but the property was not part of any municipality and was presenting a hazard, he said.
Elliott said the building looked as if it might have been a store at one point that was converted into a residence, but it has been vacant for several years. County Planner Richard Walton said the structure’s roof had caved in.
