Separation agreement approved by FSU board

Operating policies presented, will go out for public comment

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont State University Board of Governors looked at three important documents at its regular meeting Thursday.

First, the board approved the separation agreement that officially severed the ties between the university and Pierpont Community & Technical College.

The move has been a long time in coming. During the 2008 session, the West Virginia Legislature passed H.B. 3215, which required seven state community colleges to become free-standing institutions, including FSU and Pierpont.

Since then, there have been a lot of change behind the scenes that may not have been noticed by the casual observer or even the students. And that’s the way it was designed, with a seamless transition between the two institutions.
