FAIRMONT — One man was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment and traffic was backed up for miles following an accident on Interstate 79 Wednesday.
The accident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-79 near Exit 132.
Cpl. M.R. Camden of the West Virginia State Police, Fairmont Detachment, said the accident remains under investigation.
Based on statements collected on scene, Camden said it appeared a Kia Spectra registered in Nevada had pulled onto the shoulder with a flat tire and the driver of a pickup truck stopped to help change the flat. At the same time, a tractor trailer was attempting to slow down and pull off the road because of heavy traffic and cars darting around him.
